Year of the Rat
February 10, 2008
My year, once again! Only takes twelve of these 365-day-thingies for it to come back around. I have been eagerly anticipating its arrival, hoping to really milk the most out of it this time. The last time it was the Year of the Rat, life unleashed some pretty awesome things on me. But what I remember most, and least fondly of course, is that my best friend on the planet was dying and I behaved suitably insanely for quite a notorious stretch there. Didn’t keep him from dying, though.
I’ve also been sick as a fucking dog around here for the last week. And it was a weird one. Right down to my kidneys. Kidney pain is always incredibly alarming and no fun whatsoever — you know, always thinking: is now the minute I should get over to the Emergency Room? What about now? Always hedging my bets because I have one of the worst health plans known to man; it’s only a step above being uninsured. But today I feel almost human. Again.
In my down time, I watched a ton of movies. My surprise favorite was Topaze (1933; b&w) starring John Barrymore and Myrna Loy. Wow, was it fun. And the sets were spectacularly Art Deco. My all-time favorite era.
I also managed to post the 2 revised novels on LULU since otherwise they will just sit in a drawer:
http://www.lulu.com/content/2019011 (non-erotic version of When the Night Stood Still)
http://www.lulu.com/content/2018853 (still erotic but streamlined version of When Hearts Collide)
Since USED copies of those books still sell for way cheaper than even an ebook download of the new versions, I doubt I’ll sell any. But oh well. On we go.
